Jane Sweeney is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has worked with families and children in a variety of settings since 1987. She began her career at the Huntsville Madison County Mental Health Center working primarily with families and children of alcoholics/addicts as part of one of Huntsville’s first outpatient substance abuse programs emphasizing healing within the family as part of recovery from addiction. In 1992 she continued providing Family Systems and Cognitive Behavioral theory practice privately. In 1998 with a young family of her own, Jane moved to serving students and families as a School Counselor for the Diocese of Birmingham at Holy Spirit School in Huntsville, AL. Jane was the first School Counselor for K-8 Parochial Schools in the Madison County area. With her leadership skills, clinical background, and understanding of children as students, Jane established a Comprehensive Guidance Program aligned with the American School Counseling Association ethics and standards, leading the way for other School Counselors within the northern sector of the Diocese of Birmingham. In 2011, Jane became Director of Guidance Services at St. John Paul II Catholic High School (formerly Catholic High School) in Huntsville, AL. Under her directorship the program grew from primarily college counseling to providing students and families academic support, social and personal support services, career education, and college counseling. Since 2016 Jane continues to assist families, children, and individuals in finding their paths to more fulfilling and healthy lives.
